The department aims to equip its students with knowledge of the main concepts, principles, theoretical approaches and research methods of sociology.

To enable the students to examine the multiple dimensions of human behaviour, social events and phenomena, and to study the historical roots, development, functions and interrelationships of social institutions.

It aims to provide students with the appropriate skills and experience to produce the sociological knowledge needed to meet the needs of Turkey as a country undergoing rapid change.

It aims to develop professional ethics and sense of responsibility in addition to awareness of the social and universal implications (environmental issues, economy, sustainability, etc.) and legal consequences of the practices of the field.
